PEPSIN aimed to assess the acceptability and feasibility of obtaining biological and psychological measures from women with early breast cancer who were participating in stress-reducing interventions, either specialised make-up/skincare workshops or exercise programmes.
Participants were asked to complete saliva and hair collection along with a questionnaire pack measuring quality of life, self-esteem and body image. These were all collected at 4 time points: baseline which was 3 days before the intervention, day of first intervention session, 6 and 12 weeks follow up. Saliva was collected twice daily for 3 days at each time point. For this feasibility study patients recorded acceptability with the assessment procedures and completed an end of study interview about their thoughts on this project and avenues for future research.
