Patients with hearing difficulties who must see a healthcare professional about cancer may need the help of communication professionals, such as sign language interpreters. The language of cancer is increasingly complex and not all the terminology and concepts are easy to convey, especially when set against a backdrop of fear and anxiety.
We wish to design an educational programme to help communication professionals working with d/Deaf and deaf-blind people better understand what they may be required to interpret in cancer consultations. Our first step is to consider what communication professionals feel are the biggest challenges when working in cancer consultations.
