The European Organisation of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the survival and quality of life (QOL) of cancer patients. Its Quality of Life Group (QLG) champions research and education in quality of life. The EORTC QLG has funded a two-year project to develop a comprehensive QOL educational curriculum for professionals across all disciplines and anyone with an interest in QOL in oncology.
This project will create an internationally applicable QOL in oncology curriculum and will produce accreditation and sustainability plans.
A large network of international collaborators has been established to deliver this project. Existing educational resources will be mapped and reviewed. Stakeholders (including health care professionals, triallists, researchers, patient and public advisors, and regulators) from across the world will be identified and surveyed about their views, needs and preferences. Based on the results, a core curriculum, covering the essential topics for anyone interested in QoL will be created, along with specialised curricula for additional topics e.g. statistics, protocol development. A set of slides to cover the core curriculum will be produced. A plan to ensure the courses are accredited appropriately will be developed. A sustainability plan for all the courses will also be created to ensure the curriculum's content remains relevant and up-to-date.
