We are very pleased to introduce our new Senior Administrator Phoebe Day-Lloyd. She joined the team here at Shore-C this week, from UCL where she worked on an HIV research project.

Do you or someone you know have Multiple Myeloma?
SHORE-C have launched their new study called PUMMaCE (Patient Understanding of Multiple Myeloma and Communication Experiences). The online survey is now available to complete for anyone with a diagnosis of multiple myeloma.
The aim of the study is to gather information on the best ways to explain and describe this complex haematological malignancy and its treatment to patients and their families. SHORE-C have been working alongside Sussex Haematology team and patient representatives to develop survey questions that accurately reflect patients' current knowledge of myeloma. The team hope to develop educational materials from their findings that improves informed decision making and health outcomes for myeloma patients in future.

Good Luck Holly!
Senior Administrator Holly has left SHORE-C to join the Research Development Team for Sussex University. Holly has been the Senior Administrator for SHORE-C for two years and has enjoyed being part of a team that positively impacts cancer patient's nationally and internationally. We wish Holly good luck in her new role!

SHORE-C attends the CEM Away Day
The SHORE-C team have recently attended the annual Clinical and Experimental Medicine (CEM) Away Day in Brighton, focused on 'Celebrating Our Early Career Researchers'. SHORE-C research fellow Rachel Starkings presented on her project on 'Perceptions, Opinions and Views on Assisted Dying in the UK'.

Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield at the Haematology Nurses and Healthcare Professionals Group Educational Conference
Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield attended the Haematology Nurses and Healthcare Professionals Group Educational Annual Conference in Zurich, focused on supporting health care professionals through haematology and delivering optimal care to patients and supporting their families. Professor Fallowfield presented on a talk titled 'No news is not good news: Information preferences of patients', demonstrating that most cancer patients prefer to be well informed about diagnosis, prognosis, therapeutic options and side-effects of their treatment.

Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield attends BCRF Annual Symposium
Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield recently attended the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's annual symposium in New York. Professor Fallowfield is among one of the 245 distinguished breast cancer researchers who receive annual funding from BCRF. This year, generous donors helped raise over $2.7 million in just two hours. Previously, BCRF funding has supported courses like the TRUSTING workshops.

Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield at Young and Strong
Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield recently attended the Young and Strong Forum in Boston, focused on supporting young adults with breast cancer. She was the keynote speaker and addressed effective communication strategies for those with cancer in conversations with their care teams and loved ones. Additionally, she co-facilitated a session titled 'Strengthening Ties: Loved Ones Supporting Each Other'. While in Boston, Professor Dame Fallowfield also presented a lecture at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute titled 'Talking About Risk and Uncertainty in the Context of Genetic and Genomic Testing'.

Drs. Sally Wheelwright and Qi Ling attended the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer's two-day autumn conference in Innsbruck, where they presented updates on their educational project to develop a quality-of-life curriculum for oncology.

SHORE-C at International Psychosocial Oncology Society conference
Drs Helena Harder and Val Shilling attended the 3-day International Psychosocial Oncology Society conference in Maastricht, the Netherlands. They presented posters and a short verbal presentation from the PEATY and IMPACTOR studies which looked at quality of life impacts and sided effects of abemaciclib and endocrine treatment for women with breast cancer.

Professor Lesley Fallowfield presents at Novartis Breast Cancer Nurses Conference
Professor Dame Lesley Fallowfield attended the Novartis Breast Cancer Nurses Conference in Birmingham, where she presented on the topic of metastatic breast cancer titled 'Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer: Difficult conversations'. Additionally, she led an interactive presentation titled 'They just don't know what to say or do', exploring how friends and family can better support those living with metastatic breast cancer.

Professors Fallowfield and Jenkins facilitate the TARGET2 Workshop
Professors Fallowfield and Jenkins facilitated the 'Talking About Risk in the Context of Genomic Tests' (TARGET) educational programme in Brighton. The workshop focuses on improving communication skills for all health care professionals working with breast cancer patients, particularly in relaying results from the Oncotype and Prosigna genomic tests.
