Esme completed her BSc in Neuroscience at King's College London, where her dissertation examined the comorbidities of mental health disorders and musculoskeletal pain in the UK armed forces. She went on to work in a cytogenetics genetics laboratory within the NHS in Newcastle before moving to the University of Sussex to undertake an MRes in Neuroscience. At Sussex, her research focused on insula function and interoceptive pathways in patients with fibromyalgia and ME/CFS.
In October 2025, Esme joined SHORE-C as a postgraduate researcher. Under the supervision of Dr Sally Wheelwright, she is pursuing a PhD on potential biomarkers for cancer-related fatigue, combining patient-reported outcomes with proteomic analysis.
